BPDpatchSmallBrownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of May along with year-to-date numbers for 2015 and 2016.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a department that is more transparent to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Corley said that there were 103 reported crimes in May which is 43% more than the previous month.  Of the total number of crimes this month, 30% were cleared either by arrest or after further investigation.  Cases of burglary of a habitation were decreased by 25 incidents or 54.3% as compared to the same period of the prior year.  Cases of burglary of a building were increased by 36% as compared to the same time frame in 2015.

There were 36 traffic accidents and 6 driving while intoxicated arrests reported in the city of Brownwood for May.

See below for the April and May crime statistics along with tables of year-to-date 2015 and 2016 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
