TexasDPS_logoThe Texas Department of Public Safety released further information today on two separate fatality accidents that occurred on Monday evening, June 6th.

The first accident occurred at approximately 7:03 p.m. on CR 213, 5 miles southeast of Brookesmith and resulted in the death of the driver of the vehicle, identified as 69-year-old Robert Allen Holland of Brookesmith.

According to the report, the 2008 Dodge Dakota pickup was traveling southbound on County Road 213 at an unsafe speed for the road conditions.  Mr. Holland started to drive off the roadway to the left and overcorrected back to the right, causing his vehicle to go into a side skid across the roadway and rolled over to its left side, ejecting the driver from the vehicle, the report states.  The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, according to DPS officials.

The crash occurred in a 60 mph speed zone and sand, mud and dirt were reported to be on the roadway at the time of the accident, according to the DPS report.  The crash remains under investigation.

The second accident, which occurred at 8:11 p.m. resulted in the death an elderly couple and remains under investigation.

According to the report, a white Ford F-250 was traveling NW on US 84 and a black Ford F-350 was traveling SE on US 84.   DPS officials report that an unknown vehicle was passing the white Ford pickup on the right shoulder, when the white Ford veered left into oncoming traffic and collided with the black pickup.

The collision resulted in the deaths of the two occupants of the white Ford F-250, identified as 80-year-old Patricia Anne Jones of Early and 82-year-old Willie R. Jones of Goldthwaite.  Both Mr. and Mrs. Jones were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, the report states.

According to the report, the occupants of the second vehicle were world champion bull rider J.W. Harris, his wife Jackie and two small children (5 and 3) who survived the crash with non-incapacitating injuries and were transported to the Brownwood Regional Medical Center in stable condition.  All of the Harris family were wearing seatbelts with the exception of J.W. Harris, the driver, according to the DPS report.

The third vehicle did not stay at the scene, according to DPS.   The only description of the third vehicle was possibly white or silver colored pickup truck, which was possibly a Chevrolet or GMC, the report states.  The crash occurred in a 75 mph speed zone and remains under investigation.
