comptrollerlogo2Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar released sales tax allocation numbers for May which showed an increase in sales tax collections in Brown County cities with the exception of Blanket which was a decrease.

The growth in allocations for Brownwood and Bangs continued in the positive for the year to date numbers as well.  Cities of Early and Blanket slipped slightly this month as compared to May of 2015.  Brownwood and Bangs received increased allocations of 8.75% and 10.11% respectively in May’s allocations.  Early had a very minute decrease at 0.70% and Blanket had a decreased allocation of -24.88%.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar distributed $768 Million in monthly sales tax revenue to local governments.  Statewide, Hagar stated the some of the state’s largest cities saw increases; however, energy played a part in the decreases of some of these larger cities’ allocations.

“The cities of Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso and Fort Worth saw noticeable increases in sales tax allocations,” Hegar said. “Energy-centric cities such as Houston, Odessa and Midland continue to see decreases in sales tax allocations.”

The sales tax figures are based on sales made in March by businesses that report tax monthly.
