TxDotlogoThe Texas Transportation Commission awarded more than $19.4 million to rural transit providers across the state that assist people in getting to health care facilities, schools, employment and other necessary destinations. The federally-supported initiative provides public transportation funding for rural areas with populations of less than 50,000.

“Our rural residents rely on these transportation services to commute between jobs, school and doctor’s appointments, which helps them maintain their independence and quality of life,” said TxDOT Executive Director James Bass. “We are pleased to be able to assist these communities in continuing these important transportation services that keep people moving safely and comfortably.”

The commission approved the action at its April meeting.

In Texas, there are 37 rural transit districts serving 246 counties. TxDOT’s nine-county Brownwood District is served by the Central Texas Rural Transit District (City And Rural Rides), which received $632,070; the Concho Valley Transit District, which received $426,440; and the Hill Country Transit District (The HOP), which received $547,390.
