DrHall_MayfestGMThe Bangs Business Association have selected Dr. Charles Hall as grand marshal for next Saturday’s Mayfest parade. The 57 year-old Hall, who was born in Kirksville, Mo., graduated from Eden High School in 1977. Hall finished his high school career with the third highest grade point average, attained the rank of Eagle Scout and received numerous academic and athletic awards and also served as student council president.

Hall did not travel far from home, graduating from Angelo State University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in pre-medicine, majoring in biology. Much of Hall’s tuition was covered, courtesy of an earned presidential scholarship from ASU for high school academic achievement. While at ASU, Hall was granted membership in the Beta Beta Beta Biological Society.

Furthering his education, Hall was granted Doctor of Osteopathy in 1985 from the University of North Texas Health Science Center/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, where he graduated in the top 25%. During his tenure, Hall was elected a member of Sigma Sigma Phi, the National Osteopathic Honor Society and was elected as a teaching assistant for first and second year students in Osteopathic Philosophy, Principles and Practice. Hall was also a student member of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association and American College of General Practitioners.

Hall passed the Texas State Medical Board Exam and the Texas Medical Jurisprudence Exam in June 1985 and passed parts I, II and III of the National Osteopathic Board Exam in 1986. Certifications include the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and a diplomate of the National Board of Examiners for Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons.

Running a general and family practice in Bangs for 30 years, Hall was named the Texas Family Physician of the Year Award in 2011, presented by the Texas Society of American College of Osteopathic Physicians.

On May 24, 1981, Hall married Donna Catherine Pyle, who has also been the recipient of several awards, including being named the 1977 valedictorian of Greenwood High School. She was awarded a four year Fasken Foundation Academic Scholarship to Angelo State University, where she graduated in 1981 with a BBA in accounting. Donna Hall has been the Bangs Medical Clinic accountant since 1986 and previously worked as a teacher in deaf education for Brownwood and Early ISDs. She also is a former trustee with Bangs ISD and is a member and teacher at Bangs Church of Christ.

Success has become a Hall family tradition, as children Charles, Anna and Abigail, all valedictorians of their respective graduating classes in Bangs, have each followed in their parents’ footsteps by graduating from ASU.

The Mayfest parade will kick off at 10 a.m. May 7 and will travel down Fitzgerald and finish in downtown Bangs.
