HPUSquareLogoHoward Payne University’s Symphonic Band will present its 21st annual “American Music Spectacular” concert Thursday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. This free concert will be held in the university’s Mims Auditorium and the public is encouraged to attend.

This evening of Americana has become a tradition in the Central Texas area. The band will perform music that has helped shape the American musical landscape. Selections include John Phillip Sousa’s “Washington Post,” “American Salute” and “Suite of Old American Dances.” The concert will celebrate the American spirit and those who have fought for America’s freedom and democracy. The band will also perform a special piece titled “Each Time We Tell Their Story” which is a narrated tribute honoring American military heroes.

“The American Music Spectacular is one of my favorite events of the year as we get to celebrate what makes our country amazing,” said Corey Ash, assistant professor of music and director of bands. “We are always happy to be able to honor all those who have served and are currently serving in our military. It’s a special time of being thankful for all the blessings we have received as a nation.”

There is no admission charge for the concert. The band will again be accepting donations on behalf of The Wounded Warrior Project. A reception will follow in the Davidson Music Complex.

For more information, contact HPU’s School of Music and Fine Arts at (325) 649-8500.

Applications are still being accepted for the fall 2016 semester at Howard Payne University. HPU offers a variety of financial aid options including the Heart of Texas Scholarship, which awards $60,000 to students from Brown County and surrounding counties. For more information about HPU, contact HPU’s Office of Admission at (325) 649-8020 or by e-mail at [email protected].
