A memorial service for Shirley Leroy (S. L.) Mahan, age 91, of Bangs, will be held at 11:00 AM, Sunday, April 24, 2016 in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel.

Mr. Mahan passed away on March 24, 2016 at his home.

S. L. was born on November 14, 1924 in Breckenridge to Wiley Leroy and Allie Mae (Davee) Mahan.  He graduated from Goldthwaite High School.  He attended Texas A&M for one and a half semesters before enlisting in the military in World War II.  He served in the Navy, Army and Merchant Marines.  He married Gladys Sadler on July 28, 1946 in Goldthwaite.  S. L. enjoyed family activities and his work.

S. L. worked in Civil Service, where he mapped the Badlands of North and South Dakota, as a mail carrier, a water treatment plant operator and lastly as a farmer and rancher.  He was a member of Bangs First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge.

S. L. is survived by his children, Mike Mahan, Patrick Mahan and Candy Baugh; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

S. L. was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Gladys.
