Local Martial Artists Take Top Honors at Wild Wild West Karate and Breaking Championships

WildWestKarateChampionships2016

Local martial artists, representing RLS Hapkido Self Defense, won top honors at the Wild Wild West Karate and Breaking Championships which were held April 15 and 16 at the Taylor County Expo Center and Fairground.

Caitlin Alexander, a freshman at Howard Payne University, won 1st place continuous sparring and 3rd place weapons form.

Michael Spratt, assistant instructor with RLS Hapkido Self Defense, won 1st place continuous sparring and 2nd place point sparring.

Kye Payne, a student at Brownwood High, won 2nd place point sparring and 3rd place continuous sparring.

The Wild Wild West Karate and Breaking Championships for 2016 is “A” rated by the Amateur Organization of Karate (AOK) and “AA” rated by the American Black Belt Championship and Scholarship Series.  The Amateur Organization of Karate is the oldest open sport karate tournament sanctioning organization in the state of Texas.

RLS Hapkido Self Defense, a program offered at the Brownwood Fitness Center, is an eclectic style martial art combining traditional Hapkido with modern realistic self-defense, subject control and use of force applications.  Robert Spratt is Founder and Chief Instructor.
