Brown County Relay for Life held their annual survivor dinner Friday evening and announced the 2016 Child Survivor Honoree, 7-year-old Zayvion Khi Curtis.

Khi is the son of Angelina and Wilford Curtis, Jr. and was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia over the Christmas holiday break last year.  He is currently undergoing treatment.  Pictured above is Khi and his family as they arrived at the dinner.  Khi was presented a gift bag and a balloon bouquet by Marian Deans, Relay Survivor Chairperson.

“Khi is definitely deserving of this honor,” said Deans.  “He stands as an inspiration to other children as do his family’s love and support of him.  We thought it was important for other survivors to see his fight and determination as he just begins his battle.”

Friends and family have formed a group, “Team Khi” in support of his fight.  Deans told Khi at the dinner, “Team Khi just gained a whole lot of new members,” and he reacted with a smile that was priceless, according to Deans.

The 2016 Brown County Relay for Life will be held on April 22nd from 7 p.m. until 2 a.m. at Gordon Wood Stadium in Brownwood.

Relay for Life is the signature fundraising event of the American Cancer Society where individuals and teams walk/run overnight to show their commitment in the fight against cancer and to help raise money for cancer research and support.

Pictured below are Khi and his parents as he was presented at the dinner as the 2016 Child Survivor Honoree for the Brown County Relay for Life.
