Glenn Ray “Goose” Hughes

HughesRayGlenn Ray “Goose” Hughes, 79, of Zephyr, passed away on Wednesday March 23, 2016. Funeral services, under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home, will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday March 28, 2016 at the Heartland Chapel with Cindy Hames officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Sunday March 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.

Ray “Goose” Hughes was born December 30, 1936, in Tyler to Eugene Paul and Elsie (Sumrall) Hughes. The family moved to Dallas where Ray attended school. Ray joined the military and served in the United States Navy. Following his tour of duty with the Navy, Ray returned to Tyler to work. In 1982, he moved to Dallas and worked as a shop mechanic in both plumbing and metal works, and remained there until his move to Zephyr about 2000 where he began working on a home for retirement. Ray was a quiet man, liking to hunt and fish, and hang out with the family.

Ray is survived by his wife of 31 years, Evelyn (Chandler) Hughes; daughters, Sharlen Sullivan and husband Jeff of Euless, Paula Holland of Ferris, Marlena King of Atlanta, TX; two sons, Rodger King and wife Deadra of Atlanta, TX, and Dale King of Zephyr, and special son, Mark Smith of Gainsville; eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren; brothers, Fred Hughes and wife Pam of Zephyr , and Charles Hughes and wife Rose of Early; five special lady friends, Marylyn, Sandy, Carolyn, Polly, and Pat; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins; pets, Miss Priss and Scooter. Ray was preceded in death by great grandson, Josh Vinson, Jr; great granddaughter, Cheyenne Reynolds; parents, Eugene and Elsie Hughes; pets, Sadie, Tooter, Angel, and Pooter.
