Lone Star Fair & Expo Offers a Weekend of Fun

The 52nd Annual Lone Star Fair & Expo and Rattlesnake Round-Up will be held March 18, 19, 20 at the Brownwood Coliseum located at 500 East Baker Street.

This event takes place every third weekend in March and is open Friday 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.  Admission is $5.00 adults and $3.00 children.  Parking will be available in the vacant lot on Washington Street to the side of the Lehnis Railroad Museum, courtesy of BNSF Railway Company.

Rattlesnake Roundup, buying of rattlesnakes will take place during the fair.  The snake buyer will pay $7 a pound for snakes larger than 4 feet and $3 a pound for snakes under 4 ft. in length.  For more information on buying & selling rattlesnakes contact Pat McLaughlin at 325-642-6809.  All buying and selling of rattlesnakes is done by a third party vendor and not the Brownwood Jaycees.

Rattlesnake Corps. Educational Shows will offer attendees tips on what to do when encountering a rattlesnake in the wild and facts about rattlesnakes.

The Longest Snake Contest will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Along with hundreds of rattlesnakes and events, other attractions and activities at the fair include the following:

The Wrights Amusement Carnival (which is visiting Brownwood for the first time) will be open Friday 3:00 PM – 12:00 AM, Saturday 10:00 AM – 12:00 AM, and Sunday 12:00 PM – 11:00 PM.  Tickets are $1 each or all day ride access wristbands are $20.  All day Wristbands will be available to purchase in advance for $20 at Tahiti Texas, which is located next to Hastings. Most rides cost 2-4 tickets.

Lady Houdini (Kristen Johnson) will be performing.  Lady Houdini is an award-winning escape artist who is most famous for breaking Harry Houdini’s record for the most Water Torture Cell escapes.  She is currently over 1,400 attempts and counting. Performances will be at 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m. on Saturday and again at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.

52nd Anniversary Rattlesnake Round-Up souvenir t-shirts and hats will be available at the front door of the coliseum.  The Jaycees Food Booth will feature items such as fried rattlesnake & ribbon fries, chili cheese fries, snow cones, soft drinks and hot pretzels.

There will be over 75 vendors selling rattlesnake merchandise, arts and crafts, along with a variety of food.

Parents are encouraged to join the Child ID Program which allows parents to have a ready copy of their child’s information on hand in case of an emergency.

A drawing contest will be held for age categories of Pre-K/Kindergarten, 1st/2nd Grade and 3rd/4th Grade. Prizes will be given to 1st – 3rd place winners. First place winners will receive a bike, 2nd – 3rd place winners will receive an art kit. Entries are to be turned in at the Lone Star Fair & Expo.  All children that turn in an entry will receive a free snow cone pass provided by Tahiti Texas Snow Cones.  The drawing contest is sponsored by KPSM / KBUB, Brownwood Art Association and Tahiti Texas Snow Cones.

A caricature artist will offer FREE self-portraits Saturday and Sunday at the Lone Star Fair & Expo.
