Friends and Family of Jose Morales of Brownwood, who is battling colon cancer, will host a fundraiser event at Coggin Park from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12th.

On October 21, 2015 Morales was diagnosed with colon cancer.  According to family members, doctors stated that the cancer had been present for at least 7 years.

“If it had been detected in the early stages, it would not have been as aggressive as what he is going through,” said his daughter Anabel Morales.  “Please join us to knock out colon cancer from the top 3 cancer killers.”

Jose has had several weeks of chemo and radiation and has been in the hospital for weeks after surgery and due to complications.  Jose and his wife have no income during his treatment, since his wife is not working while she cares for him.  Money raised through the fundraising event will help the Morales family with medical expenses and medications not covered by insurance.

The event will include food such as hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob or in a cup, snow cones, and popcorn.  There will also be fun for children in the jump houses.  Awareness items will be available in the Blue Ribbon store.  There will also be a cake walk, silent auction, t-shirts for sale and Hunnybean Creations items for sale.

Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death in men and women combined in the United States. On average, the lifetime risk of developing colon cancer is about one in 20. In 2016, it is estimated that more than 130,000 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and nearly 50,000 will die from the disease. Despite these statistics, colorectal cancer one of the most preventable and, if found early, most treatable forms of cancer.
