The City of Brownwood welcomed two new officers to the Brownwood Police Department during Tuesday’s city council meeting.

Officers Ray Slayton and Kris Salazar took the Oath of Office and Law Enforcement Oath of Honor before their badges were pinned by family members in a ceremony before the council.  Officers Slayton (right) and Salazar (center) are pictured above taking the oaths.  Also pictured is BPD Chief of Police Mike Corley (left) as he administered the Oath.

“I’m very proud to have these two guys, to have this guy back (Slayton) and to have Kris come aboard,” said Chief Corley.  “These are going to be two great officers.  The future of our department is very bright all together, but especially to have these two guys coming on.  I’m especially happy to have these two guys here.”

Officer Slayton had previously worked in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Brownwood Police Department before leaving for a couple of years to work in the oil industry in Amarillo.  Officer Slayton’s badge was pinned by his grandfather, Burton Brackett.

Officer Salazar is originally from Goldthwaite and began his career in law enforcement in Carrollton, Texas, spending nearly a year at the Carrollton Police Department.  Officer Salazar’s father, Abel Salazar, pinned his badge during the ceremony.
