HPU Lands Six Women, Two Men On All-Conference Teams

ASCLogo2The American Southwest Conference today announced the 2016 ASC Women’s Basketball All-Conference teams and six players and coach were honored from Howard Payne, following a vote of the league’s head coaches.

First Team All-ASC, First Team All-West Division, West Division Defensive Player of the Year, West Division All-Defensive Team – Danyel Bradley
Bradley, who received her second consecutive ASC Player of the Year award, was also named the West Division Defensive Player of the Year. A three-time all-conference selection, Bradley was one of two conference players to record more than 500 points this season (536) and ranked second in the ASC in scoring (19.9). Bradley led the league in assists (113) and steals (85) and ranked second in field goal percentage (.496).

West Division Coach of the Year – Meia Daniels
In her third season as head coach, Meia Daniels led Howard Payne to an 18-10 overall record and to a 10-4 conference record winning the West Division title (5th West Division title overall). It is the 17th consecutive winning season for the Howard Payne women’s program.

Second Team All-West Division – Sarahi Castillo
Sarahi was second on the team in scoring at 9.1 points per game and led the Lady Jackets in rebounding with 7.3 per game. She scored a season high nineteen points three times this year and grabbed a season high 15 rebounds vs Alverno College.

West Division All-Defensive Team, West Division All-Freshman Team, Honorable Mention West Division – Ashley Caldwell
Leading the ASC as a freshman, Ashley Caldwell had 71 blocks (3rd best in HPU history) this season. She averaged 2.7 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game. She had five or more blocks in a game six time this year.

Honorable Mention West Division – Presley McKethan
Averaging 6.0 points per game and 2.5 assist per game, Presley scored a career high 20 points at Hardin-Simmons this season. She was third on the team in three-pointers made with 35 and second in assists with 70. She played in all 28 game and started in 18 of them.

Honorable Mention West Division – Yessenia Cazares
Yessenia led the Lady Jackets on the year in three-pointers made with 44. She averaged 7.9 points per game starting in 14 of 24 games played. She had a season high 16 points in a win over East Texas Baptist.

Honorable Mention West Division – Micah Cisneroz
Micah Cisneroz started in 17 of 27 games for the Lady Jackets. She averaged 6.1 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game scoring a season 16 points in a win over UT-Dallas.

The Howard Payne University men’s basketball team had sophomore guards Richey Guillory and Khyce Randall named to the Second Team All-West Division list by the American Southwest Conference on Monday, following a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Second Team All-West Division and West Division All-Defensive Team – Richey Guillory
Rickey Guillory averaged 13.5 points per game and 6.7 rebounds per game. He scored a season high 22 points at Mary Hardin-Baylor. His 41 steals on the year placed him sixth in the ASC and 21 blocks as a guard placed him ninth overall in the league.

Second Team All-West Division – Khyce Randall
Khyce Randall finished ninth in the ASC in scoring averaging a team high 15.0 points per game along with 5.6 rebounds per game and 1.8 assists per game. He scored a season high 33 versus Concordia and was fifth in the ASC in free-throw pct at .813 pct.
