The Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit opened on Sunday, February 7th and will continue through February 19th with many talented artists from across the state offering demonstrations alongside the art exhibit. Demonstrations scheduled for Wednesday, February 10th will include R.J. Barnett, Kathryn Jones, and Paige Shelton.
Demonstrations will be presented from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on weekdays at the Depot Civic and Cultural Center in Brownwood. Artists will show visitors how to use a variety of different media as well as share interesting techniques.

Kathryn Jones is a native of San Antonio, in 2009 she moved to Brownwood with her husband Lane. She was immediately introduced to the Brownwood Art Association becoming an active member, served as a board member and is currently a member of several committees.
Kathryn is a multi-medium artist working with acrylics, watercolor, pastels, pencil. Although she has never had any formal training in art she found herself teaching at several schools in her hometown. That experience drew her out of her comfort zone to study books and magazines in order to demonstrate the techniques to her students. This lead to several of her former students winning awards at local art contests. Although she claims to be a master of none, she has credited her multi-medium interest to the wide variety of the local artists who have demonstrated their talents each year at the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit.
She has demonstrated marbleizing with watercolors, an all-time favorite with the visiting students from local schools, for the Stars of Texas exhibit for the past 3 years. This year, Kathryn demonstrate how to paint a 3D ornament that was birthed in 1999 from an experience she discovered while painting ornaments for her family members as a gift. Her late mother Carol requested a winter scenery that lead to a special material called Snowtex that gives a textural snow affect. She soon learned how to sculpt the Snowtex to create her 3D and low relief sculptures as well as using silicone molds to create more detailed affects to her ornaments. The use of Snowtex has evolved to other creative ideas such as decorative flower pots, picture frames, spoons and more.
Paige Shelton
Paige has spent her life with an interest in art beginning with watching her mother paint landscapes and portraits as they traveled around the world with her father, an Air Force officer.
This interest led her to study art at UT, achieving a BFA in studio art and art history as she began a career involvement with pottery that has provided a lifetime of fulfillment and provision.
Paige has enjoyed demonstrating making pottery on the wheel to the students and community of Brownwood for several years and appreciates the value of watching artisans working with their hands and studying their work.
