The Texas Municipal Police Association showed by example a brotherhood in law enforcement truly exists on Friday afternoon as member Bob Beadel and his wife Ann of Brownwood accepted a check from the association to help them after their home was recently consumed by fire.  The Beadels home of more than 40 years, which was located just south of Brownwood, burned in a massive house fire on January 13th.

TMPA Deputy Executive Director Mitch Slaymaker, a former Brownwood Police Sergeant, traveled from Austin to present the check.

“We serve over 24,000 members and when disaster strikes one of our members, we try to provide immediate relief,” said Slaymaker as he presented the funds to the Beadels.

Bob retired from law enforcement and has been a member of TMPA for many years and expressed his thanks to Slaymaker, who he stated could have just mailed the check, but instead personally delivered it to an old friend.  “The outpouring of love has been amazing,” said Beadel.

Funds for the donation were made possible by the TMPA charities.  Slaymaker explained that TMPA is dedicated to supporting their members.

TMPA Charities is a tax-exempt law enforcement charity which contributes 100% of every dollar donated to a variety of charitable and benevolent programs such as a $20,000 scholarship program to dependents of Texas officers who are TMPA members, a $10,000 line-of-duty death benefit and extensive support/benefits to families of fallen officers, assistance to members in financial need due to serious illness or injury and disaster response and personal assistance to officers during catastrophic events.
