TexasRepublicanPartyThe deadline to file for the March 1 Republican Primary ended Monday evening. There will be a few contested races, with some incumbents facing no opposition.

The precinct 1 seat on the county commissioner’s court will see incumbent Gary Worley being challenged by Tommy Blevins, Bob Contreras and Jimmy Trowbridge.

Wayne Shaw, precinct 3 commissioner, will be challenged by Jessica Acker and Pat McLaughlin.

In the race for district attorney, incumbent Micheal Murray will be challenged by Bill Ruth.

The race for Brown County Sheriff will see Billy Bloom, Vance Hill and Paul Lilly vying for the position. George Caldwell was appointed earlier this year to fill the position after the death of Bobby Grubbs.

The following individuals will face no competition, as there were no other filings. Shane Britton, county attorney; Robert Porter, Brown County Republican Party Chair; Steve Ellis, 35th District Court Judge; Christine Pentecost, tax/assessor collector; Robert Mullins, precinct 1 constable; David Hefner, precinct 2 constable; Roy Parrack, precinct 3 constable and Jim Byars, precinct 4 constable.

In the contested races, a candidate must earn 51% of the vote to avoid a runoff.
