Kathy Gaylene “Gay” Harmes, 54, of New Braunfels and former resident of Coleman, died Sunday, December 6, 2015 at her residence.  Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street, Coleman, with Britt Farmer officiating.  Burial will follow in the Coleman City Cemetery.  Services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Kathy Gaylene “Gay” Harmes was born December 23, 1960 in Coleman to Cecil Harmes and Opal Heilman Harmes.  When Gay was two, she and her parents moved to Lamesa, where she attended school.  She moved back to Coleman in 1989 and later moved to New Braunfels in 2003.

Gay won several medals in the Special Olympics, and traveled to Austin for state competitions.  She loved playing the organ and could play just about any song by just listening to it a few times.  Gay was a member of the Church of Christ.

Gay is survived by one sister, Noreda Brock of New Braunfels; two aunts, Marie Vaughn and husband, Jimmy, of Brady, Belva Rutherford and husband, Hilary, of Coleman; four nieces and nephews, Elicia Farrell and husband, Billy, of New Braunfels, Denise Patterson and husband, Mike, of McKinney, Stacy Harmes of Alvin, Cheree Longoria and husband, Marty, of Houston; nine great nieces and great nephews, Brandon Kidd and wife, Jennifer, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Melissa Patterson of Addison, Texas, Mikey Patterson of McKinney, Anysse Harmes of Houston, Cody Patterson of McKinney, Erica Krolczyk of New Braunfels, Nikki Farrell of Houston, Jeremiah Farrell of New Braunfels, Hannah Farrell of New Braunfels; one great-great nephew, Jeremiah Farrell of New Braunfels; one great-great Niece, Hannah Farrell of New Braunfels.

Besides her parents, Gay was preceded in death by a brother, Denny Harmes and a sister, Barbara Harmes.

Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 at the funeral home.
