Madlock Named Grand Marshal of Bangs Annual Lighted Parade

AlexMadlockBangsChristmasGM2015Bangs Business Association announced Alexandria Madlock as Grand Marshal of their Lighted Christmas Parade. The Parade will travel through the streets of Bangs, Saturday, December 12, promptly at 6 P.M.

“We are very proud of our hometown talent, and Alex stands out above the rest,” said parade organizers LaFreda Kilburn.

Alexandria Madlock is the daughter of Serena and Rongey Madlock.  She is a junior at Bangs High School. She earned a silver medal in the young women’s division of the triple jump during the USA Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships on July 31, 2015. Alex jumped 12.22 meters, with only 4 centimeters separating her and the top jumper.

Along with this honor, Madlock qualified for state in four events, taking gold in the triple jump with a school-record jump of 39 feet, 4.5 inches and a silver in the long jump at 17 feet 6 inches, as a sophmore. She has also entertained the audiences at several plays by the drama department.

“(Alex is) such a well-rounded young lady whose roots run deep here in Bangs,” said Kilburn. “We are honored to honor Alex as our Grand Marshal.”

The Lighted Christmas Parade is free of charge and there are no entry fees to participate.  Parade line up is at 5:30 pm. At the Bangs school bus barns on Gantt Street and will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m.  The parade will travel down Fitzgerald, through downtown and will end back at the City Park Pavillion.

At City Park, immediately following the conclusion of the parade, Santa will be available for pictures and the First Baptist Church will present the Live Nativity. There will be free homemade cookies and hot cocoa or apple cider to warm up the crowd as they enjoy Christmas In the Park.

The lighted parade and Christmas in the Park is sponsored by the Bangs Business Association, Bangs First Baptist Church and Bang MDD.   The public is invited to come and enjoy an evening of family fun.  For information please contact, LaFreda Kilburn 325-998-1567.
