Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees met in a special called meeting Wednesday afternoon and unanimously approved a contract to hire Dr. Joe F. Young as the new BISD Superintendent.

“I am extremely humbled and very excited to be officially approved by the board today,” stated Young. “I was honored that all board members were able to attend a mid-day meeting and glad to have their unanimous support.”

As Young signed the contract, BISD Board President Michael Cloy stated the board was excited to have hired Young.  Dr. Young will officially begin as the Brownwood ISD Superintendent on January 4th.

Dr. Young stated that he was ready to get started and honored to be hired.  “I’m extremely excited and extremely humbled by the opportunity.  BISD is a great school district with great tradition, great present goings on, so I am very humbled by the opportunity to be able to come here and get started in January.”

Young explained that Brownwood ISD was very attractive to him because he had worked at both very small schools and very large schools, and stated, “Brownwood offers the good things that I found at both of those, small enough to have those personal relationships  where you get to know people on an individual basis and be part of the community, a little different than you can in the bigger districts, but big enough that you have multiple schools, you have great resources to allow the things for your kids that smaller districts are really not able to do.  It’s very exciting to be able to put all those things together.”

The main priority for Young is always the kids of the district, making sure the district has great teachers and great administrators working with them. He said as he begins this new position, his first priority is to meet the people within the district, the students, staff and administrators.  Young stated that he feels the district is running well, from what he has seen but that he will get to know the district and work with its employees to find what the district can fine tune to be even better.

“I don’t have a set agenda, they have been having school and doing it well,” said Young.  “There is really no reason for me to come in and make a lot of changes right off the bat, I’ll just have to get to know everybody.  There will be some changes we will make, in things that we feel we can do better, not just to make changes for the sake of change.”

Young is currently serving as a Deputy Superintendent at Corsicana ISD where he has been since 2008.  Prior positions held include: High School Principal, District Technology Director, and Athletic Director for Grapeland ISD, High School Biology Teacher at Cypress Fairbanks ISD, and Health Department Chair and teacher at The Woodlands High School and Caney Creek High School within Conroe ISD.

Dr. Young has a Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University, a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas Wesleyan University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science from Texas A&M University as well as Texas Teacher, Principal, and Superintendent Certifications.
