Whiteley0001On Saturday, November 28th in Brownwood, Texas at the age of 89, our beloved Melba Lucille Whiteley went to her heavenly home.  Melba passed away peacefully with family by her side.  Services will be held Monday, November 30th at 2:00 PM at Heartland Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Bangs Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, November 29th from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM at the funeral home.

Melba was born to George V. Alva Cullins and Dillie Pridemore Cullins on August 24th, 1926 in Coleman County.  Melba was the youngest of 9 children.  When she was 8 years old her mother passed away and she was cared for by various family members until she found her home in Ozona, Texas with her older sister Edith Deland and her family.

In July of 1943, she married her first love Allen Forsythe Whiteley.  They made their home in Brownwood, Texas.  She spent her time taking care of her Santa Fe Railroad husband, their son and daughter, and their registered Hereford cattle.  Her passion in life was caring for others, especially her family.

Melba was preceded in death by her husband Allen, her parents, her brothers J.T.Cullins, Dan Cullins, Floyd (Ponky) Cullins and James Cullins; her sisters Gladys Wright, Anabel Warren, Edith Deland and Mary Telford; as well as a great granddaughter.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Michael Forsythe Whiteley and wife Nancy; her daughter Phyllis Wylene Yoes and husband Don.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Janessa King and husband Scott, Chad Whiteley and wife Brandi, Cullin Whiteley and wife Stacy, Marquette Myers and husband Steve, and Robert Allen Brewster and wife Marjorie.  She was blessed with 11 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.  Her local great grandchildren are Jakayli Kng and fiancé Zachary Coppic, Jayslin King, Brayton Whiteley and Barrett Whiteley.  She is also leaving behind her dear friend R.D. Trowbridge, who cared for her selflessly as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Melba was loved dearly by all who knew her and will be missed greatly.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net
