CommunityActionPartnershipCentral Texas Opportunities, Inc. of Coleman has received a $300,000 grant from the Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance to fund continuous quality client development, and to provide easier access to resources for Veterans and their families.

Central Texas Opportunities, Inc. is a nonprofit organization serving Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, McCulloch, and Runnels counties with utility and rental assistance programs, education services, CNA classes, financial literacy courses, job skills trainings, Hunters for the Hungry, as well as information and referrals. CTO also has a successful case management that has helped to transfer 38 individuals out of poverty in the last two years.

The Texas Veterans Commission grant will be used to serve Veterans, Veteran’s dependents and surviving spouses with the following needs: utility assistance, rental/mortgage assistance, case management, transportation, employment services, job etiquette, referrals, financial literacy, support services, medical services, and dental services. Central Texas Opportunities, Inc. will identify Veterans through an application process, and Case Managers will begin to assist them with their specific needs.

“We are honored to serve veterans and their families that give so much of themselves,” said Hanna Adams, Executive Director, “the funds will allow us to impact and empower by assisting them with wrap around case management services that will include utility assistance, rent or mortgage payments, transportation, employment services, financial literacy, medical and dental services, referrals, and other supportive services. We believe these services will allow our veterans an opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency.”

Central Texas Opportunities, Inc. is always accepting donations to help fund future assistance programs. For more information on Central Texas Opportunities, Inc. or how you can support its community efforts, please visit www.ctoinc.org or call (325) 625-4167.

Texas Veterans Commission Fund for Veterans’ Assistance

The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance grant program was established in 2007 by the 80th Legislature and funded in late 2009.  The program awards reimbursement grants in four categories: General Assistance, Housing4TexasHeroes, Veterans Mental Health, and Veterans Treatment Court Grants. These grants offer funding to non-profit and local government organizations which, in turn, provide direct services to Texas Veterans and their families. Since 2009, the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) program has awarded over $55M in 307 grants to 142 non-profit and local government entities. For more information, visit www.tvc.texas.gov.
