KeeseeFuneral

Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant William “Karl” Keesee was laid to rest Tuesday.  His family, friends and hundreds of law enforcement officers from across the state and even some from out of state came to honor his memory and service.

Funeral services were held at the Austin Avenue Church of Christ, followed by a large procession traveling under a huge American Flag hoisted by Brownwood Fire Department ladder trucks at the top of the Bill Monroe Overpass on Austin Avenue.  The procession continued to the graveside for services at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in northern Brown County.

At the graveside, his family was honored with a flag presentation.  This was followed by a 21-gun salute and a DPS helicopter flyover in his honor.

Sgt. Keesee was killed in a one-vehicle accident late Thursday night near Goldthwaite.

According to DPS officials, Sgt. Keesee joined DPS in 1990 and was stationed in Brownwood. He is the 217th DPS officer to die in the line of duty since 1837. Keesee leaves behind his wife Darla, two children and countless friends.

Pictured above is the funeral procession as it traved under the flag Tuesday.
