Girl Scout Troop 84302, located within the Pearl Griffin Memorial Latch Key Program, recently took a tour with Brownwood Assistant Chief James Fuller at the Brownwood Police Department.

Fuller spoke to the girls during one of their troop meeting about being observant and how to conduct investigations on a student level.  During the visit, troop members and their siblings were given the opportunity to see the inside of patrol cars, a holding cell, as well as the local 911 emergency call center.

The girls in the troop also made goodie bags to thank the officers for their service to our community.  Not all members of Troop 84302 were able to make it for the tour, those in the picture with Brownwood Police officers are: (from left to right) Michael Avalos, Kadyn Avalos, Officer Mares, Amiyah Avalos, Avilene Kuhn, Destiny Hopkins, Jade Ortega and  Assistant Chief Fuller.

Founded in 1983, the Pearl Griffin Memorial Latch Key Program is located at 2411 Coggin Avenue in the First Christian Church in Brownwood, Texas.  The program serves children (Pre-K through 6th grade) who qualify from low income families to have after school care so that the children are not left home alone.

Each year, approximately 80 children are served in Brownwood by Latch Key.  First Christian Church donates the classroom space and Howard Payne students help as teachers fulfilling two needs, a low cost staff for Latch Key and a job through the Work Study Program for the HPU students.  Latch Key and Girl Scouts are United Way Organizations.

For more information about the Latch Key Program call Jessica Hardy at 646-2138.
