Weldon Orvil Horton

HortonWeldonOrvilWeldon Orvil Horton, 89, of Early, passed away October 8, 2015 in Abilene, Texas.  Visitation for Mr. Horton will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2015, 6 pm-8 pm at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home.  Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015, 2 pm at Davis-Morris Funeral Home.  Interment with military honors will follow at Rising Star Cemetery.

Weldon Orvil Horton was born February 22, 1926, in Seymour, Texas to Samuel Horton and Ludie Auldridge Horton.   Weldon met Bettie Jo Stewart Terry in September of 1947.  They married a week later, on September 27, 1947. They were married for 54 years until Bettie’s death October 29, 2001.

Mr. Horton is a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy; he was stationed in Guam during his service and was issued a commendation for service during a typhoon on Guam.  After receiving his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy he used his GI Bill to attend Auto School to become an auto mechanic. He worked on vehicles until two months prior to his death. He loved working on cars and visiting with friends at Branding Iron Restaurant; as well as other coffee shops.  He was very active in the Local VFW Post and the DAV here in Brownwood.  He dearly loved his kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and never met a stranger.  Weldon also had a special place in his heart for all his daughters-in-law.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bettie Jo, one brother, two sisters, and two great-grandsons.

Mr. Horton is survived by his sons, Earl Michael Horton, Sr., Weldon “Don” Horton, Jr., Aaron Truett Horton, Ervin Andrew Horton; his daughter, Deborah Ann Horton; a sister, Lucille Hayter;  fourteen grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, in-laws, outlaws and many “adopted” kids.

Services for Mr. Horton are under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be left at www.davismorrisfuneralhome.com .
