browncountyhealthcenterThe Brownwood/Brown County Health Department will be holding another community-wide flu clinic on Monday and Tuesday, October 12th and 13th from 8:00-4:30pm.  The clinic will be held at the Health Department, located at 510 East Lee Street in Brownwood. The flu clinic will be open to any residents of Brownwood or the general Brown County area.

The influenza vaccine offered is the quadrivalent vaccine and is effective against 4 different influenza virus strains. The cost of the vaccine is $25.00. The health department does not file private insurance, however, they do file conventional Medicare part B.  Medicare recipients will need to bring their Medicare card with them to the clinic. Insurance coding information will be provided to anyone with private insurance so they can file a claim with their insurance company for reimbursement of the cost of the vaccine.

Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory disease caused by the influenza virus. It is transmitted through droplets that are present in the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes or talks. Influenza can cause serious complications, (including pneumonia), especially in the very young, older people or those who have compromised immune systems. The Centers for Disease Control recommends a yearly influenza vaccine for persons 6 months of age or older.

For questions about influenza and the influenza vaccine please call the Brownwood/Brown County Health Department at 325-646-0554; or visit the CDC website at www.cdc.gov.
