comptrollerlogo2Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar released sales tax allocation numbers for September which showed Bangs, Brownwood and Early with increases.

The growth in allocations for Brownwood, Early, and Bangs were 12.37%, 10.93% and 16.04% respectively over the same month last year.  The city of Blanket saw a very small decrease of less than 1% in the same time frame.

Hegar also said that state sales tax revenue in August was $2.6 billion, down 0.4 percent compared to August 2014.

“The slight decline in sales tax revenue was due to reduced receipts from oil and gas-related sectors, offset by growth from other sectors,” Hegar said. “Higher collections from retail trade, restaurants and services indicated continued growth in consumer spending, while receipts from construction also grew.”

Hegar also announced he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $638.1 million in local sales tax allocations for September, which represents an increase of 1.7 percent compared to September 2014.

The sales tax figures represent monthly sales made in July by businesses that report tax quarterly.
