bisdlogo3At a regularly scheduled meeting, Monday, September 14th, the Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees approved several items including an addendum relating to former superintendent Dr. Reece Blincoe’s separation agreement with the district.

Action items during the open session included approval of fundraisers, library vendors, district improvement plans, and out-of-state student trips for the 2015-2016 school year.  The out-of-state trips planned for the year include the BHS Lionettes traveling to New York City to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the BHS Choir traveling to Memphis and Nashville with an opportunity to tour and perform at Graceland and learn about the professional studio recording process.

The board discussed minor policy updates, and examined issues and options regarding the handling of transfers between schools within the district when classes exceed the state limit of 22 to 1 (students per teacher).

The district also reported increased enrollment numbers to the board as well as a perfect score of 30 in the most recent Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (F.I.R.S.T.) report from the 2013-2014 school year.

Prices and options for repairs or replacement of the existing track at Gordon Wood Stadium were also presented as the district continues to look at solutions for the cracking and weather damage on the current surface before the upcoming track season.

During the Executive Session the board deliberated and approved an addendum relating to the specifics of Dr. Blincoe’s separation from the district.  The board accepted a retirement letter submitted by Blincoe for the date of Dec. 18th as opposed to the previous release date of Jan 31st.

The addendum benefits both parties, allowing Dr. Blincoe to seek other employment and allowing a new superintendent to begin January 4th instead of February 1st.

“The board has accepted Dr. Blincoe’s early resignation,” said Board President, Michael Cloy.  “This change in the separation agreement will be advantageous to both parties and allow us to move forward in a more rapid progression with the hiring of our new district leader.”
