DanielGrahamAug2015Even as the August heat wilts gardens and gardeners alike, Brownwood Area Community Garden is preparing for cooler weather with a class on Fall and Winter Gardening this Saturday at 11 a.m.

The program will cover cool-weather vegetables, fall flowers, cover crops and composting, and will be presented by Daniel Graham, Garden Coordinator of the Community Garden, at the Community Garden at 1500 Dublin Street.   The fee for the class is $5 for the general public and free to those who lease plots at the Garden.  A few 3½ by 20 foot plots are still available for lease for $25.

Brownwood Area Community Garden was established in 2009, primarily for the purpose of providing fresh, naturally grown produce to area food pantries to feed the hungry.  The Garden’s secondary mission is to provide space for residents who wish to garden according to natural, sustainable methods; to provide a venue for education on sustainable gardening practices; and to provide employment and on-the-job training opportunities in a green industry for low-income workers.

For additional information about the Brownwood Area Community Garden, the Fall & Winter gardening class or to lease a plot, call Graham at 325-641-9029.
