The Veterans of Foreign War Post 3278 of Brownwood will distribute Buddy Poppies to area school districts as school is getting started.

Post members decided to become more involved in local school districts and to distribute the poppies as a patriotic kick-off to America’s school year.  Members will also be bringing information about their Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen Programs that start with the school year also.

Nominations will soon be sought for the VFW Teachers program in the near future as well.

The VFW Post is located at 2300 Stephen F. Austin in Brownwood.  Nationwide, the nearly 1.9 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliaries contribute more than 8.6 million hours of volunteerism in the community, including participation in Make A Difference Day and National Volunteer Week each year.  The VFW provides over $3 million in college scholarships and savings bonds to students every year.
