Brown and Mills County Sheriff’s Offices worked a cooperative investigation which resulted in the arrests related to a counterfeit money operation, according to Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs.

Brown County Sheriff’s Office assisted Mills County Sheriff’s Office with a probation search at a residence in Blanket on a male suspect identified as Richard Humphries on Wednesday, July 29th.  According to BCSO Captain Vance Hill, Humphries was identified as a possible suspect in the passing of forged US currency in Brown and Mills Counties.

During the search a male, identified as 30-year-old Michael Burnett, Jr. of Blanket, was at the residence, the release states.

A consent search of a vehicle located several counterfeit $20 bills and a subsequent search of a storage building at the same location revealed evidence that both Humphries and Burnett had been printing/forging US currency at the residence in Blanket, according to Sheriff Grubbs.

Burnett was found to be wanted out of Mills County for unrelated theft charges.  Burnett was arrested and charged with forgery of government/national instrument/money/security according to Brown County Jail records.  He was also found to be in possession of marijuana <2oz.  As of Thursday morning Michael Burnett, Jr. was being held on bonds totaling $26,500.

Richard Humphries, Jr. was also arrested during the investigation, charged with possession of a control substance penalty group 1 and possession of a controlled substance penalty group 3 less than 28 grams.  He was being held on bonds totaling $8,000.

Richard Humphries, Sr. was located later Thursday afternoon at his residence and charged with forgery of government/national instrument/money/security, according to Hill.

Sheriff Grubbs said that he was pleased with the results of the search and investigation. “This investigation was successful because of the diligence and hard work by the Mills County Sheriff Deputies and Brown County Deputies,” said Grubbs.
