Brown County Sheriff Bobby Grubbs released the following statement Monday morning regarding the search and recovery of the body of flood victim Glen Nation of Coleman.
After over four days of a cooperative search effort, the body of Glen Everett Nation, 61, was found on Sunday afternoon in Sand Creek near the Jim Ned tributary. On Wednesday, July 8th, Nation, attempted to cross through rushing water on FM Hwy 2492 near County Road 105. High waters rushed his pickup off of the road and downstream several hundred yards. Nation exited the pickup and attempted to secure a small soft cooler as he was carried downstream for a significant distance before rescuers lost sight of him. Over the next 4 days the search and rescue became a search and recovery operation. On Friday, various personal items belonging to Nation were recovered downstream and from the pickup including the soft cooler containing felony amounts of marijuana and hashish.
Sheriff Grubbs requested the assistance of a number of public and private resources to aid in the search and rescue operation to attempt to locate Nation. Over the next four days the following resources, in addition to Sheriff’s Office personnel, shared extensively in the operation: Significant resources were committed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife using their boats and sonar technology. AirEvac provided a helicopter. David Furry and Leak Surveys Inc. also provided a helicopter. The Texas Department of Public Safety committed significant resources including the Aircraft Section (Helicopter), Dive Team, and several troopers. Brown County Emergency Management provided support and the assistance of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). The Travis County Search and Rescue team also responded with several persons and searches with cadaver dogs. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice provided tracking dogs and horses. Brown County Bridge Volunteer Fire Department aided in search and support activities. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) provided barricades and traffic control. Brown County Precinct 4 Commissioner Larry Traweek provided personnel and barricades. Brown County Water Improvement District provided boats and search efforts.
Sheriff Grubbs expressed his gratitude for the tireless work of his deputies and the participating agencies and private citizens. He especially wanted to commend the support efforts of the Community Emergency Response Team and the businesses who donated food, replenishment drinks, water, and supplies to aid the many involved in the operation.
