ThomasCharlesFuneral Services for Charles Henry Thomas, age 88, of Brownwood are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2015, at Calvary Baptist Church with Terry Hancock officiating.   Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home.

Charles resided at Oakridge Manor when he went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 09, 2015.

Charles was born April 1, 1927, in Brown County to Harve H. and Velma (Storm) Thomas. He was a 1944 graduate of Brownwood High School, attended Daniel Baker College, and completed several night accounting courses at Howard Payne University. Charles served in the US Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and in Japan during the Korean War, earning the Korean Service Medal.

On July 9, 1947, Charles married the love of his life, Billie Ruth Keeling, in Brownwood. He and Billie were able to share almost 60 years together prior, to her death in 2007. They were blessed with two sons, Tim and David.

In 1947, Charles began what would be a 32-year career with the State of Texas Department of Transportation. He began work in the accounting office, but soon transferred to the engineering department.  While still working for the highway department, Charles was able to obtain his Real Estate Broker License.  After retirement, he utilized that license by working at several local real estate agencies.

Charles always managed to find time to go fishing, have a spirited game of table tennis and was always ready for a competitive game of 42.

Charles was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church since his baptism in 1937. He served on various committees, including Budget/Finance, Building and Grounds, and Pastor Search. Charles was elected a Deacon of Calvary in 1981, and was a member of the Men’s Fellowship Sunday School Class for many years.

He is survived by 2 sons, Tim Thomas and wife Lynda of Melissa, TX and David Thomas and wife Debbie of Dallas, TX; grandsons, Ty Thomas, wife Andrea and great-grandson, Braxton of Atlanta, GA, Dave Thomas of New York, NY; granddaughter, Jordan Thomas of Denton, TX; step-grandson, Cody Phillips and family of Keller, TX; sister-in-law, Katherine Thomas of Carrollton, TX; several nieces and nephews; as well as, “adopted” daughter, Karen Mosqueda and family of Brownwood, TX.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Ruth Thomas; his parents, Harve and Velma Thomas; brother, Jack Thomas; and sister, Eva M. Andrews.

The family requests all memorials be made to the CLC Fund of Calvary Baptist Church or a charity of choice. Online condolences for the family are welcome at www.blaylockfuneralhome.com.
