AllenRichardRichard Clifton Allen passed away at home on Monday, May 25th surrounded by family.  Richard was born November 11th 1946 in Jefferson City, Missouri to Fred and Lurley Whitmire Allen.  He moved to Texas at age 2 and lived most of his life in Brownwood and Early.  Richard served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1970.  He married Mary Kay Russell Crawford on October 6th 1983.

Richard was known for his many jokes and would never tell the same on twice.  Richard enjoyed going to Whataburger every morning to “shoot the bull” with his friends and then going to Walmart to check on the books and spoiling his grandkids.  He was a wealth of knowledge of Brownwood history.  Richard would never pay full price for anything at a garage sale or flea market.  He would sweet talk until he got a deal.

Richard is survived by his wife Mary Allen of Early; son Chris Allen and wife Laura of Orange, Texas; daughter Shawna Pierce and husband Billy of Grand Prairie, Texas; son Robert Crawford and wife Cindy of Brownwood; daughter Donna Thacker and husband Jeff of Brownwood, Texas; daughter Sara Thacker and husband Bill of Valley View, Texas.  11 grand kids, 6 great grand kids; brother Walter Fred Allen and wife Janice of Early; his “adopted kids” Keith Brown and Misty King; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Pete the dog.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter Suzanne Lynn.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in Richard’s name.

Graveside services  will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Rock Church Cemetery in Blanket under the direction of the Heartland Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Friends are invited to sign the guestbook at www.heartlandfuneralhome.net.
