little_lion_logo_2015The 4th Annual Little Lion Olympics will be held Tuesday, May 26th, and Wednesday the 27th at Gordon Wood Stadium. The games promote healthy athletic competition and Olympic-style events for Brownwood ISD students from 3rd to 5th grade.

Students from five campuses (Woodland Heights Elementary, East Elementary, Northwest Elementary, Coggin Elementary and Brownwood Intermediate School) will participate in the games each day, beginning with students entering the field carrying custom-made flags.  Opening ceremonies include the students participating in the National Anthem, reading the Olympic Oath, witnessing the lighting of the torch and releasing of doves. Participants will then take the field to compete in various track and field events.

The Little Lion Olympics was formed from collaborative ideas generated from the School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC). “The event continues to get better each year,” said Stefenia Phipps, Intermediate P.E. Teacher, coach, and Little Lion Olympics coordinator.

Phipps noted that the support of teachers, staff, and the community have helped to make the Little Lion Olympics a success. The top sponsors for the Little Lion Olympics include: Platinum-level sponsor, United Supermarket, Gold-level sponsor, The Runaway Train, and Silver-level sponsors, Jacob’s Family Pharmacy, Central Texas Auto Recyclers, CRB Medical Associates, Heartland Funeral Home, Big Country Ford, Johnson Mechanical Services, Brownwood Fitness Center, Weakley Watson Sporting Goods, Brasher and Co., Landmark Life, Auto Express, and T-Bar Encino Ranch.
