comptrollerlogo2Texas State Comptroller Glenn Hegar released sales tax allocation numbers for May which showed small increases in Brown County cities of Brownwood and Early and a larger increase for the City of Blanket.   The report shows a very slight decrease for the city of Bangs.

The growth in allocations for Brownwood and Early were 3.78% and 2.30% respectively over the same month last year.  Blanket saw a 121.86% increase of more than $3200.  Bangs saw a decrease of 0.15%.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said that state sales tax revenue in April was $2.3 billion, up 1.1 percent compared to April 2014.

“As we predicted in January, state revenues have grown at a moderate pace. April is the second consecutive month of relatively slow growth in sales tax revenue, and I remain cautiously optimistic about our economic progress,” Hegar said. “Growth in total sales tax revenues collected this month was muted by the significant slowdown in the oil and gas mining sector; however, collections from other major economic sectors – including retail and wholesale trade, restaurants, construction, and manufacturing – continued to grow. This marks the 61st consecutive month of growth in sales tax collections.”

Hegar will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts their May local sales tax allocations totaling $759.8 million, up 6.1% compared to May 2014.

The May sales tax allocation figures represent monthly sales made in March.
