Brown County supporters of 91-year-old Ernie Andrus held a reception at the Brown County Courthouse Friday afternoon.

Andrus, a World War II veteran, is currently running across the United States in a fundraising effort to land his ship back on Normandy for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.  His journey began in 2013, leaving California, and so far traveling to Brownwood.  Andrus plans to complete the trip sometime in 2016.  In recognition of his military service and sacrifice along with his dedication to the fundraising cross country trip, supporters came together presenting Andrus with medals, cards of encouragement, and much more.

Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes presented a proclamation to Andrus of May 8, 2015 being officially named Ernie Andrus Day in Brownwood.  Members of the Foreign Legion Post 196 presented him with a $500 check along with a World War II Service Medal.  The local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented a $200 donation.

Also present and posting the colors for the event were local Boy Scouts from Den 10.

Heart of Texas EMS served hot dogs, chips and drinks during the reception.

Pictured above, Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes issues the proclamation to Andrus.  Below are more photos from the event.
