91-Year-Old Veteran Arrives in Brownwood on Cross Country Fundraising Run, to be Honored with Reception May 8

Ernie Andrus, a 91-year-old World War II Veteran, is currently running across the United States in a fundraising effort to land his ship back on Normandy for the 75th Anniversary of D-Day and will be running through Brown County May 2-16.

Andrus arrived in Brownwood on Thursday, May 7th, accompanied by local supporters and ending his day’s run at Heartland Mall in Early.  With a run starting in the morning, at County Road 152, near Bangs, he ran 6.6 miles on Thursday.  As Andrus entered Brownwood, he was met at Austin and W. Commerce by 35 Brownwood Middle School girls’ athletics students and their coaches.  He was escorted through Brownwood into Early, by Heart of Texas EMS and Brownwood Fire Department.

Local supporters will host a welcome reception on Friday, May 8th at the Brown County Courthouse square from 12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m.  Heart of Texas EMS will be serving hot dogs, chips and drinks during the reception.

Ernie started his fundraising quest in 2013, running about 6-8 miles a day, 3 days a week and will complete his run in 2016.
