GeorgeThomasThomas Wallace George, 85 of Brownwood, passed away Friday April 10, 2015.

A memorial service, with military honors, will be held Saturday, April 18th, beginning 2:00 p.m. at the Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early.

Services are under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home.

Thomas was born August 13, 1929, in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, to Bernard and Laura (Rohloff) George. After graduation, Thomas joined the United States Army and proudly served his country.

While in basic training at Fort Hood, Thomas met and married Betty Hinesly in February 1952. After his Honorable Discharge from the armed forces, they moved to Wisconsin for 4 years and then returned to Texas, where he stayed for the remainder of his life.

Thomas was employed 33 years with Southwestern Bell/GTE/Verizon Telephone Company before retiring in 1989. Thomas was a member of the Woodland Heights Baptist Church and a member of Brownwood Masonic Lodge #279.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty George; children: Tommy George and wife Ann of Waco, Gary George and wife Vicki of Brownwood, and Terry George and wife Donna also of Brownwood; a sister-in-law, Shirley George; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; 3 nephews and 1 niece. In addition, Thomas is survived by many cousins in the Wisconsin Fox River Valley – especially Grace [Richard] Van Handel of Kaukauna, Wisconsin.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Laura Christopher; brothers, Bob and Doug George; and sister-in-law, Donna George.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Corinne T. Smith Animal Center in Brownwood or their favorite charity.
