Students at Woodland Heights Elementary jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Jump Rope for Heart on February 24th, 25th, and 26th. The students raised more than $15,000 for the American Heart Association, which funds research, programs and education to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers.
“This year’s event was very special,” said Coach Morelock. “We exceeded our goal of $13,000 and as a result, we taped Mrs. Swanzy (pictured left) to the wall.” Last week, students gathered in the front hallway as the top donation earners taped their principal to the wall. “It is the most we have ever raised at Woodland Heights.”
“One reason for our success is the effort that Nurse Helen Lacy puts forth to give our students a realistic experience with how the heart works,” Morelock added. “As the students work through each station, they look forward to attending Nurse Helen’s station.”
Jump Rope For Heart is a program that promotes physical activity and heart health through jumping rope. It is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and SHAPE America-Society of Health and Physical Educators.
