Off Mic With Ben Cox: Automotive Eye Candy

BenCox2015I really like cars.

I REALLY like cars. Apparently more than I thought!

I was in Fredericksburg this weekend, and apparently it was “Bring out the really cool classic car and go for a drive” weekend down there, because I saw more cool muscle and sports cars in 4 hours than I have in probably a year.

As readers may recall, I had a Miata that I LOVED to drive. It was tight in the corners, speedy on the exits, and cornered like it was on rails!

Yes, I am 6’2”, and barely fit in the thing, but I LOVED that car!

I tell you that to say this: while walking with my companion for the day, when she pointed out a newer Miata. I simply said “After everything I’ve seen today, that is small potatoes!”

There were Ferrari’s, Porsche’s, AC Cobras, MINI Coopers, Fiats, Alpha Romeo’s, and so on.

I was in HEAVEN!

But then a thought occurred to me, but I refused to let it ruin my revelry.

I know absolutely jack squat about working on cars.

Seriously, I can put gas in them, take them for an oil change, and when something goes wrong I blame a solenoid, simply because I hear that word A LOT.

And there lies the extent of my automotive knowledge.

There needs to be an automotive “shop class” for guys my age, because we ALL want cool old cars, but a large number of us lack the knowledge it would take to keep them running.

Which as I understand can become a fulltime job.

So, if anyone wants to teach me, I’ll be glad to be in the inaugural class of the “automotive shop class for middle aged guys”.

Cause I really love old cars.

So much so that my companion thought I was checking out a girl, when I was really wolf whistling at another hot rod on display!
