Brownwood Mayor Pro-tem Draco Miller presented Dan Humeniuk, assistant professor of social work and chair of HPU’s Department of Criminal Justice, Social Work and Sociology, with a proclamation declaring March Social Work Month in the city of Brownwood.

According to the proclamation, the primary mission of social work is to enhance the human well-being and help meet the basic needs of all people, especially the most vulnerable.  Social workers help people function better in their environments, improve their relationships with others, and solve personal and family problems through a wide range of services, Miller stated.  Social workers are employed in many different organizations and industries, including private and public agencies, hospices and hospitals, schools and universities, businesses and foundations, military branches and veterans’ centers among others.

Miller encouraged all citizens to support the social work profession during the reading of the proclamation.

Pictured above is Humeniuk with Miller as the proclamation was made.
