BowlForKidsSakeBrown County Big Brothers Big Sisters to host their annual Bowl for Kids Sake on Saturday, March 28th at Academy Lanes in Brownwood.  Sessions will be held at 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.  Organizers state participants will enjoy a session of bowling plus music, pizza, Pepsi, door prizes and lots of fun.

The goal of the event is to have 24 teams of 6 bowlers each. Each team is asked to have a fundraising goal of $600 or $100 for each team member.  (This can be as simple as asking 10 people for $10 to help change a kid’s life forever.)

Those who do not have a team can be assured organizers will help form teams. To sign up by  going to Brown County Bowl For Kid’s Sake or call/email Eric Evans at 325-998-2801 or Bobbie Duffer at 325-647-5860.

Big Brothers Big Sisters officials explain that researchers have found that after 18 months of spending time with their “Bigs,” the Little Brothers and Little Sisters, compared to those children not in our program, were:

  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
  • 52% less likely to skip school
  • 37% less likely to skip a class
  • 33% less likely to hit someone

Studies funded by the Lilly Endowment, the Commonwealth Fund,  the Pew Charitable Trusts, and an anonymous donor have shown that when Little Brothers and Little Sisters feel good about themselves, they can positively impact their friends and families, their schools, and their communities.  And these young people believe in themselves because a Big Brother or Big Sister believed in them.

Those interested in becoming a “Big” brother or sister can call Eric Evans at 325-998-2801 for more information.
