EHSBandSweepstakes2015The Early High School Band traveled to Hamilton Wednesday, March 4th to participate in the 2015 UIL Concert & Sightreading contest.  With all of the crazy weather and the threat of postponement or cancellation, the one thing that stood out in the minds of the band students was the possibility of not getting the chance to realize their hard work and preparation.

But, the band convoy indeed made it safely, performed at their strongest level to date both on stage and in the sightreading room, and received First Division ratings in both captions. This allowed them to earn their fourth consecutive Sweepstakes Trophy since 2011, and the 9th total Sweepstakes since 1977.

“I am so proud of this group.  They have overcome many challenges this year.  Through all that, they focused hard, showed their resolve, and displayed their Longhorn spirit and excellence,” said EMS band director Robert Chapleau, who is assisted by Allen Andrus, EMS director of bands.

“I had a saying on my score binder that we needed to ‘finish the job that we started in the fall’. They sure did,” Chapleau said, “with flying colors.”

The next major engagement of the Early High School Band will be April 26th, 2015 for their Spring Concert.  EHS Gym will be the site for this event.
