Art students from Brownwood Middle School were invited to take a field trip to the Martin and Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum on Wednesday, February 11th, to get ideas, take photographs, and make sketches of the displays.

The students used those ideas and images to create their own artworks, deciding for themselves what subjects and materials to use.

“The students have enjoyed the different aspects of this experience, from the time exploring the museum displays, to getting to decide their own subjects and materials for their artworks, and to the excitement of preparing their artworks for the exhibit,” said Brownwood Middle School art teacher, Julie Mize. “I appreciate the invitation from Beverly Norris, director of the Martin and Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum, to have my classes be part of this collaboration and I look forward to seeing my students’ artwork on display there.”

The work created by the students will be set up as an art exhibit inside the museum and will be on display throughout March to celebrate Youth Art Month.

The exhibit’s opening reception will be Saturday, February 28th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
