Ed Devery, 67, of Brownwood passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015, in his home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2015 at St. John’s Church with Father Michael Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenleaf Cemetery with Military and Masonic Honors. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, February 27, 2015, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
Edward Michael Devery, Jr. was born April 5, 1947, in Ft. Worth, Texas, and adopted by Edward and Lillian (Schroeder) Devery. Ed graduated from Brownwood High School in 1965 and afterwards he enlisted in the military, where he served for 20 faithful years in the Texas Army National Guard, where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He also worked for Verizon/GTE for 29 years before retiring.
Ed was a Master Mason with 41 years of service in the lodge. He served as Secretary of Brownwood Lodge #279 for many years and was a Past Master of Indian Creek Lodge #807. Masonry held a very special place in Ed’s heart and he believed in the lessons and tenets it taught. One of Ed’s favorite things was teaching the esoteric work to newly initiated members. Along with the Blue Lodge, Ed was also a member of the KCCH Scottish Rite and the Suez Shrine Temple. Ed had many interests and hobbies; he was an accomplished pilot and a HAM radio operator. He also loved ranching, fishing, hunting, camping, riding his red Harley Road King, and visiting with his family and his brothers. Ed was an animal lover and will be especially missed by his “son” Harry the cat Devery.
Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, friend, and devoted brother. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him and loved him.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lillian Devery.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Jane Devery; his son, Edward M. Devery, III and wife Jayla; 2 daughters, Amy Zimmerman and Elizabeth Marquess; his sister, Vicci Jenkins; and his precious granddaughter, Camilla Devery.
