Mellie Almeta Horner Grissam

GrissamAlmetaShe was surrounded by her loving family.  Meta was born July 4, 1925 in Caradan, TX to Justin and Mary Koen.  She married Milton Horner on November 23, 1946.  They had three children – Dorothy, Mary and Clarence.  Milton and Meta enjoyed 33 years of marriage before Milton’s passing in January 1980.  She married Dr. Garner Grissam on March 24, 1985.

Meta was a proud homemaker and owned her own beauty shop for thirty years.  Her passion was spending time with her family and friends.  Survivors are her children: Dorothy Eoff and husband David of Paris, TX ;  Mary McCullough of Granbury, TX; Clarence Horner and wife Teresa of Stephenville, TX;  ten grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Nowell Hively of Safford, AZ.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Horner; husband, Dr. Garner Grissam; parents, Justin and Mary Koen, brother Clarence Albert Koen and Sister Ida Mae Read.

The funeral service will be 3:00 on Sunday, February 22nd at Heartland Funeral Home in Early, TX.  Burial immediately following at Eastlawn Cemetary in Brownwood, TX.  Visitation will be at Heartland Funeral Home from 6:00 -8:00pm on Saturday, February 21st. Arrangements made by Heartland Funeral Home in Early, TX. Please visit www.heartlandfuneralhome.net to leave your condolences to the family online.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the American Heart Association.
