Brownwood High School Project Graduation raffled off a 2015 Ford Fiesta to raise funds for the annual alcohol and drug free graduation party, and the winning ticket was drawn on Wednesday evening at Big Country Ford in Brownwood.  Shawntay Sparks-Hubbard was the winner of this year’s raffle.

Hubbard stated that she was shocked to have won and “had never won anything like this before.” When asked how many tickets she had bought, Hubbard would not state a number but joked “you don’t want to know.”  Other sponsors of BHS Project Graduation stated that Hubbard bought many tickets in several students’ names in generous support of the fundraiser.

Approximately 238 raffle tickets were sold at the price of $100 each.  53 of those tickets were sold by 2015 senior class members who stood on the side of W. Commerce in the freezing weather and worked to raise more funds.

Students who sold the most tickets were awarded cash prizes, provided by Big Country Ford, which included $400 to Abby Hubbard for 1st place and $300 to Bailey Watkins for 2nd place.

Project Graduation sponsors stated that people had been very generous and that the community really stepped up to help support this fundraiser.  They also stated that the parents of the seniors had really been very committed to help with ticket sales and promotion.

The winner received a choice of ownership of the 2015 Ford Fiesta, for which tax, title and license fees were included or to use the cash value of the prize toward the purchase a different Ford vehicle of their choice.

The primary goals of Project Graduation activities are to increase awareness of the dangers of drinking, drugging and driving and to reduce the number of youth involved in alcohol and other drug-related highway crashes. Across the country, Project Graduation and the chemical-free celebrations it inspired are the new tradition for graduating seniors.
