Texas State Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers for December showing Brown County cities experiencing steady growth, amounting to more than 11% for the county as a whole. All four Brown County cities of Brownwood, Early, Bangs and Blanket showed increases in comparison to the same period in 2013.
The City of Brownwood was up 11.44% in sales tax for the month compared to December of last year. The City of Early saw a 13.09% increase in allocations as compared to the same period in 2013. Bangs and Blanket were also up with 4.73% and 17.57% respectively, as compared to the same month last year.
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said today that state sales tax revenue in November was $2.66 billion, up 10.7 percent compared to November 2013.
“The growth in sales tax collections was fueled by increased remittances from both business and consumer driven sectors,” Combs said. “The gains were led by oil and natural gas-related sectors, while collections from retail trade and restaurants also rose strongly.”
Combs will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts their December local sales tax allocations totaling $645.9 million, up 11.4 percent compared to December 2013.
The December sales tax allocation figures represent monthly sales made in October.
