Brownwood’s Lyric Performing Arts Company Board made a special presentation to the Brownwood City Council on Tuesday as a thank you for the city’s support through the theatre’s massive renovation, a $3.4 million project.

An emotional presentation to the council was made by board member Dub Wilson.

“We normally come to see you with our hand out wanting help and we wanted to say thank you.  You have been very generous to the Lyric in this process,” said Dub Wilson.  “It’s been a long time and a lot of hard work.  We had a lot of help from people in the community and in Brownwood and we appreciate it very much.”

Wilson explained that this help has come in many forms, volunteer labor, doing demolition work inside the building, with financial support and a lot of other things.

“We have had support from various groups within the city, from departments helping to get this project done,” Wilson said.  “We now have it essentially completed.  We are getting ready to have a grand opening on Thursday evening, we are looking forward to it, it will be a great event, a historical event.  It’s not very often that you reopen a theatre that is 100-years-old and the Lyric is (this year in fact).”

A shadow box frame contain a special commemorative medallion was presented to the city in appreciation for their contribution to the renovation efforts by Wilson on behalf of the LPAC Board.

Brownwood Mayor also presented a proclamation to the LPAC board stating the importance of the arts in the community and naming December 9, 2014 “Lyric Theatre Day” in Brownwood.

The Lyric Theatre in downtown Brownwood will host their grand opening event on Thursday, December 11th which will also be the opening for their musical “Anything Goes.”   Tickets are currently available at BrownwoodLyricTheatre.com.
